Home Maintenance Series: Replacing A Double Hung Window’s Vent Latch

How-To Home Maintenance Series: Replacing A Double Hung Window’s Vent Latch

Is your window not staying closed? Is there a broken piece hanging off your window? It could be a vent latch issue. A vent latch is a standard attachment on double-hung windows which allows a window to be partially open rather than fully open.

What causes a vent latch to break can be as simple as wear and tear. The process of fixing a vent latch is quite easy. If you own a Power window, we can even mail you the service part so you can fix your window vent latch yourself.

In this video, our Senior Vice President of Project Services Michael DiMartino walks you through how to remove a window vent latch and how to install a new vent latch on a double-hung window. The tool needed for vent latch repair is a pry bar, but you can also use common household tools such as a putty knife or five-in-one tool to remove old vent latches from your window.
