Why Millennials Love Working at Power Home Remodeling

Culture Why Millennials Love Working at Power Home Remodeling

Power just earned the #8 spot on Fortune’s 2024 Best Workplaces for Millennials list. From purpose-driven work to clear growth paths, we’re sharing what makes our organization a perfect fit for Gen Y.

Millennials represent the largest generation of today’s workforce — which is why employers care deeply about their wants and needs, and why institutions like employment survey company, Great Place to Work and Fortune Magazine, are fascinated by the answers.

Earning the #8 spot 2024 Fortune Best Workplace for Millennials list award, POWER may have cracked the code into what Gen Y really wants — and it’s not just because our two co-CEOs are millennials themselves.

We’re sharing a deeper look into why millennials are thriving both inside and outside our walls.

Making Work Matter

Volunteering is a core part of many of POWER’s events and initiatives throughout the year.

Millennials are powered by purpose-driven work, and so are we. We’ve built our entire organization on purpose, which is putting people over profit. From how we take care of employees, to the quality of service we provide our customers, to the ways in which we support our communities — people remain at the center of everything we do.

The work we do here has special meaning, and our employees feel it. In fact, POWER scored a 92% satisfaction rate from employees when it comes to pride and purpose in their work.

Here are just a few of many ways our employees feel a greater sense of purpose at POWER:

Fostering Well-being Through Fun

POWER employees gather in Mexico for the company’s annual Quest music festival and retreat. Think Coachella meets Burning Man!

Various studies have found that care for well-being is a major priority among millennial workers. And according to Fortune and Great Place to Work, the #1 driver for well-being is fun. In fact, employees who experience fun at work are 190% to 220% more likely to have high well-being levels.

We’re serious about fun at POWER — and 96% of our employees agree. Whether it’s a satire video of our executive team to hype up employees, a chance to pie a VP in the face for donating to a good cause, or once-in-a-lifetime performance promos that are open to the company, there’s no shortage of fun here.

But to top them all is Quest — our annual holiday retreat and music festival in Mexico. This trip is three days full of fun, including contests, interactive art installations, beach games and activities, and an exclusive music festival featuring global acts like Bruno Mars and Kygo just to name a few.

A Clear Path Forward

At POWER’s annual Leadership Conference, employees learn how to advance their career paths.

More than any other generation, millennials lack clarity around expectations, so creating a work environment where your Gen Y employees know exactly what is expected of them to advance their careers is imperative.

Over the past few years, we’ve enhanced our road to leadership to be more transparent and accessible for anyone in our community. POWER’s leadership program now includes more training and touch points throughout the leadership journey that focus on expectations and responsibilities of a POWER leader, improved our application process, and created clear performance standards across the company so employees know exactly what is required of them to earn a promotion, giving everyone a fair shot.

And proof is in the pudding — 92% of our employees believe that management makes its expectations clear.

Whether a millennial or not — work that truly matters, feeling cared for, and transparency are all qualities that make a great workplace for all.
