POWER is honored to be recognized on the 2024 PEOPLE Companies That Care list, a reflection of the collaborative work we’ve done as a team to make a difference for our employees, the communities we serve, and the planet. 

If you ask us why we earned this honor, the answer is simple: it’s because of our people. Our people are the ones who make POWER not just a good business, but a great one. They live out our core value of Care every day by showing up for one another, our customers, and for the communities we serve. 

Showing Up in Times of Crisis

At POWER, we show up when our people need it most.

While we hope POWER employees are positioned for success in all facets of life, there will naturally be times when they face challenging situations beyond their control. In true POWER fashion with our people as our North Star, we knew we needed to figure out a way where the company can play a role in helping an employee land back on their feet. Because when the going gets tough, POWER shows up.

Which led us to create Power Aid — an Employee Relief and Assistance Fund now in place to assist employees coping with unexpected hardships or who need financial assistance to recover more quickly from a specific life event. Medical expenses, funeral costs, unexpected financial hardships, expenses due to military deployment, or disaster relief can be covered through this benefit. This allows us to support employees more directly when it matters most. 

Supporting our POWER Parents

The well-being of our employees and their families is our top priority. That’s why we’re continuously evolving our parental benefit offerings to better support them.

The crippling costs of child care have played a big part when it comes to current economic challenges, and have been a catalyst behind women leaving the workforce entirely. At POWER, we believe that our employees shouldn’t have to choose between work and starting a family. 

The most recent offering we added to our suite of parental benefits is subsidized child care, which provides employees up to $5,000 annually — the maximum tax-free amount allowed by the government.

This benefit is part of POWER’s quest in building a more welcoming and supportive environment for all parents. Other offerings include an enhanced parental leave policy, infertility coverage, maternity management programs, and newly added, bereavement time for miscarriages.  

Powering the Cure for Childhood Cancer

Throughout the year, POWER hosts several events and initiatives to continue driving donations for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation through kickball tournaments, popup lemonade stands, auctions, and more.

Since 2011, POWER has supported the mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, by galvanizing employees to donate to this nonprofit. Over the lifetime of the partnership, employees have given over $7.6M to help find long-term cures and treatments for pediatric cancer. 

Each of our territories is paired with an Alex’s Hero family, supporting them locally 365 days a year and bringing them into the POWER community, allowing for deep connections to be formed and supporting hero families at milestone life events, holidays, and more. 

In 2023, we raised over $1.6M, surpassing our goal — a record-breaking year. We even raised $1.2M in the first 24 hours alone. POWER has unified employees around this purpose-driven initiative, where over 70% of the company is mobilized to donate to the nonprofit.

Using Our Power for Good

Our commitment to giving back to our communities is not done through words, but rather action. Using our power for good to create tangible change in our communities is what we’re all about. 

We’ve maximized volunteer hours, the amount of goods we’ve donated, and the dollars we’ve raised — and now, we are living into our purpose of helping those beyond our walls reach their potential by establishing Power for Good.

Power for Good is a set of initiatives that place POWER people at the center of philanthropy, giving employees a voice and choice in where the entirety of our philanthropic funding goes to impact causes they care about.

In 2023 alone, we proudly supported 52 non-profits and provided 60 total individual grants — amounting to nearly $1 million in funding. 

We also used our power for good to organize the largest POWER employee volunteer initiative. During our DEI Summit in Chicago, more than 300 employees volunteered with non-profits across the city to improve Chicago neighborhoods and giving back to community members. This initiative was made possible by partnering with Chicago Cares — the city’s premier volunteer organization, connecting individuals and organizations with volunteer projects that address the city’s most pressing needs.

As we reflect on and celebrate the work we accomplished in 2023, we are inspired by the possibilities to do even more.
